Treatment of Astigmatism During Cataract Surgery

If you have moderate to high levels of astigmatism, you may benefit from an astigmatic correcting intraocular lens (toric intraocular lens).  Astigmatic management with cataract surgery is optically superior to glasses because the treatment for astigmatism actually becomes part of the inside of the eye.  Treatment of astigmatism with toric lenses is highly effective.  If you anticipate having more than 1.00 Diopter of astigmatism after cataract surgery, it is worthwhile to educate yourself regarding how much blur this causes so you can make an educated decision as to whether to invest in this technology.   These days most surgeons offer toric lenses.  If your surgeon does not offer toric lenses, you may want to consider looking around for one who does.
